Petitions Committee provides Feedback to Community on RDP House Allocations
13 March @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm
Chairperson, Honourable Refilwe Mogale, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s (GPL) Standing Committee on Petitions will Monday, 13th March convene a public meeting with the people of Khutsong Extension 03. The purpose of the meeting is to provide feedback to petitioners on RDP Houses allocations in the area.
The petition was received from a member of the Khutsong Ext 3 community in Carletonville, who approached the Petitions Standing Committee on behalf of the community, alleging a backlog with regards to RDP housing in the area. At the time of lodging the petition, it was reported that there were more than 300 units of formal stands with title deeds but without the actual RDP houses. It was also brought to the attention of the Committee that the contractor left without completing the project. Prior to seeking the Committee’s intervention, the community had allegedly sought assistance from various other government departments and there were talks of un-peaceful demonstration due to frustration.
The Standing Committee resolved to adopt the petition in accordance with Section 4 of the Gauteng Petitions Act (n0.5 of 2002); and thus commenced with the process of ensuring the service delivery challenges as raised by members of this community are resolved. The Standing Committee further ensured the involvement of the Merafong City Local Municipality, noting the challenges raised are at a local government level.
